The first compost bin has been turned, covered and left to rest until the fall. Several buckets of black gold from the bottom of the heap were spread on the beds where fall vegetables will be planted. We are now using the middle bin for garden clippings.
282 lbs of produce donated so far to Mansfield Mission Food Bank, our volunteers and angels! 72 lbs since July 1!
We hope that our volunteers and angels are gratified that our work is showing results. The garden is not only beautiful, but also productive. God is good!
Be on the lookout for aphids, caterpillar and slug damage, cucumber beetles, and evidence of squash bugs. Continue to prune and train up your tomatoes and cucumbers vertically as we showed you last week. Squash and sweet potato vines also do well when grown vertically. Remember to plant lots of flowers to attract pollinators!
